Gillette is a slow to mature doe, but has a presence about her that makes
you stop and look twice. She is a doe that excels in dairy character. She
is flat boned, open, smooth and thin skinned. She is also upstanding with
squarely placed strong feet with deep heels, straight, perfectly placed
forelegs, and style and grace to balance it all out. She needs some more
time to grow and put more milk in the bucket, but she does show depth of
heart and increasing depth into rear flank. Her wide, flat rump tells all in
that she has a high wide secure rear udder attachment, near ideal medial
and correctly sized and shaped teats. We look for more production and
capacity with additional freshenings. She'll get there...
As an Intermediate Kid with stiff competition in that class within the herd
(Vegas and Sibby), Gillette had to fight hard to earn a place on the trailer to
go to shows. Gillette did compete well in the 2 shows she went to,
including a respectable 2nd place Int Kid and was part of our 1st place
Best 3 Junior Does at the prestigious NAILE in November. Due to her lack
of social skills from not attending shows as a kid, she is a shy milker, but
is coming around. She's travelled to a few shows with us to get the hang
of things so she's more comfortable in these situations in the future. She
is coming out of her shell as a 2 yr old now and is not the scaredy cat she
once was.
I got twin Gillette daughters by Status (her grandsire) in 2009. "Gahanna"
resides in the herd and is a blonde beauty! She has been doing very well
in the Junior Kid ring in Ohio, Kentucky, and TN.
